A Quest of Sorts

By Stanislav Bandrovsky in General

It has been a while since I posted anything on this blog. Now, I have a reason to. One of my friends has a remission of cancer. It spread into her lungs now, and there is no known cure for it. I am going to attempt and devote several of my posts to alternatives to treating cancer even in terminal stages. I took it upon myself to provide whatever information I can to my friend, so she can fight the illness, because she intends to. So, stay tuned for my posts. If anyone has any stories to share or some information to contribute, feel free to post it...or contact me. Thanks everyone.

Charity of the Month

By Stanislav Bandrovsky in General

Charity

This week I decided to start a new section of my blog that would be completely dedicated to charities. Every month I will pick a charity that best reflects the purpose of this blog, as well as my personal beliefs and values. In brief, I will describe what the charity does, and why anyone would want to donate money to it. At the bottom of the post, there will be a "donate" button. If anyone feels generous, please consider donating. If you are not ready yet, I will always provide alternative ways of contributing non-monetarily. So, stay tuned for the first charity of the month.

Way of the Peaceful Warrior

Way of the Peaceful Warrior Book 1

For anyone that has not heard of this book, I would say go to your local book store and pick up a copy, you will not regret it. If you are seeking answers and knowledge that you can use in everyday life, this series of books is for you.  What I found in the pages was eternal knowledge that I already knew existed inside of me, but it was put into simpler form. Not it may books such clarity can be found, as well as depth.

The first book deals with the struggles of a young gymnast, going through life’s challenges. At a certain point of his life, he meets an old man that helps this young man find out who he really is, and to start truly living. The second book deals with the continuing self-discovery of the not so young any more man. The main character travels around the world, in an attempt to find out more about himself. The third book talks about who this mysterious teacher is and where he came from. I have not read the third book yet, still taking in what I discovered about myself with the help of the first two books. I have also recently seen the movie that was based on the first book. Considerable parts of what made the book wonderful were taken out of the movie, but the message remained unharmed. Overall, I recommend the DVD, but it is not a substitute to the book.

Some advice from a person that strives to better himself every day, if the book doesn’t feel right to you, or you sense that there is inner resistance to the messages it contains, put the book down and read something else until you get drawn to the book again, or not. The vessel that revelation comes in matters not, it is what you hear and incorporate into your being that ultimately matters.

Thumbs way up for all the books and the DVD.

The Green Way Out of Allergies

me1.jpg Friday, 31 August 07 - 11:15 AM (GMT -08:00)

Greens

Recently, I had a severe allergic reaction to something unknown. After trying every natural remedy as well as Benadryl for a week, I was still breaking out in hives. I also knew that going to the doctor was no use since he could not do anything.
So, as a last resort I went to the library and began researching ways to cleanse my system. Since my allergic reaction was both physically apparent and quite disconcerting, I wanted to get rid of it as soon as I could. Amongst many ways of getting rid of hives and other reactions, I found something that was easy and safe enough to try. My remedy was a green shake. It is a smoothie made of green leafs like spinach, collard greens and dandelion. One of the ways I made this shake edible was to add a kiwi or a banana. The best way of neutralizing the grassy taste is by adding avocado. There are quite a few better and more edible ways of making a green smoothie, but I have not experimented with them yet. The idea behind drinking a green smoothie is to use the natural healing abilities of the plant in its raw form to detoxify and alkalize your body.  All I can say is that after drinking these smoothies for three days in a row, two times a day, I got rid of all of my allergic reaction. So, if you have an allergy, or just want to detoxify your body, read up on the green smoothies or experiment with mixing some greens and fruits. The books below in the works cited section are just amazing for your health needs.

Coconut

me1.jpg Monday, 02 July 07 - 12:22 AM (GMT -08:00)

What good is a coconut to you? Aside from an occasional fantasy of being deserted on an island somewhere in the warm waters. Accompanied by a beautiful companion, food, shelter and drink. The dream of splitting up a coconut and drinking its juice, then eating its pulp and afterwards using the shell as plates...Oh my, quite a fantasy. It would be even a better one if you had means to get back to civilization before your companion will think you are a better lunch than conversationalist.

Coconuts have been and still are a part of the daily diet of various cultures. As far as Western cultures go, we see coconuts in our Thai restaurants, baked goods, drink flavors etc. Not until recently though have scientists looked at how good this little fruit is good for the human body. Back in the days though, coconuts were considered to be quite bad for you since they contained a lot of saturated fat, as much as 90%.

There are quite a few positive effects of consuming coconut oil. Some studies suggest that coconut oil is very good for your heart, fat loss, as an energy source and perfect for your skin.

Here is the website that sells one of the best brands of coconut oil.

Quinoa goodness!

me1.jpg Friday, 22 June 07 - 01:16 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Stanislav Bandrovsky in Body

Lately I have been hearing a lot about this plant. After doing some research of my own I found that this is quite a nutritious resource. This plant originated in South America where it was regarded as sacred food by the Incas. This plant was as important to the diet of the ancients just as potatoes were to the European peoples. With the intrusion of conquistadors and Christianity, this plant was forbidden to eat since it was used in the Incan religious rituals. Quinoa is not a grain but a seed. There is no relation to the wheat family, so this is a perfect food for people with wheat allergies etc. Nutritionally the seeds are amazing in protein content (14-18%) as well as very high levels of lysine and antioxidants.

You can prepare this seed is different ways. If you get the seed in bulk, you will have to soak it in water for about two hours. Then you can simmer it in a sauce pan for about 15-20 min. If you are a rawist you can germinate this seed and eat it. It will take two hours for the seeds to germinate.

In the end the seed will feel like al dente pasta. Honey is good to add to freshly cooked quinoa if you want a nutritious breakfast. As far as prices go, a pound of the seeds will cost you $1.99 at Whole Foods.

Here is a link to a company that makes a quinoa cereal:

Holistic Fitness

me1.jpg Saturday, 21 April 07 - 11:00 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Stanislav Bandrovsky in Spirit

I can say that I am a person that searches for answers. Every day I try to better myself bit by bit. Fitness, both spiritual and physical is a very important part of my life. For the better part of my life I have been focusing on mostly my spiritual advancements, ignoring the physical part. As the years progressed I decided that in order to be a whole person I need to have a strong physical body to support my even stronger spirit. Hence my "crusade" for achievement of a certain balance began. As with every journey there comes a time when you really have to search for what is good for oneself. I delved into study of nutrition and various exercise routines. Now, by no means have I reached the desired goal yet, but I am on my way.
Now, about what holistic fitness means to me. In my opinion, there must be a balance achieved between one’s body and soul. Over focusing on one and ignoring the other is not a very healthy way of life. In order spirit to express itself, what is needed is a strong body and mind. For this to come to fruition a proper nutritional plan has to be made along with an exercise routine that will increase the body’s agility, endurance and strength. After a routine has been set up for the body to be properly nourished and trained, another routine has to be established which is spiritual. Vigilance of the mind is a very important part in being a holistic person. In order to be healthy one has to watch what he/she thinks and says. Thoughts are directly involved in the process of creation. What one thinks, one usually manifests. So, surveillance of thoughts and words as well as deeds is very important. This can be compared to nutritional need for the body. You wouldn’t eat something that you knew was a poison, just as you wouldn’t initiate in negative thinking if you knew it is poison not only for your mind but your body and soul. What needs to be understood that there is no real separation of the three. A person is whole as he/she already is. What needs to be found is again that balance on which a person can exist and flourish in. So, holistic fitness is about finding that balance as well as practicing it.
If anyone has any thoughts on this feel free to post a message or a comment.

Now, I am not an M.D, nor do I have any special credentials or formal education in this field so whatever you read in this and other blogs is not professional advice.

Detox for Spring

me1.jpg Saturday, 17 March 07 - 02:02 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Stanislav Bandrovsky in Recomendations

Detoxing is a very important practice in every day human life. Both physical and emotional cleansing is needed for a person to function. In this age of chemicals and even more chemicals combined with stress, it is even more important to watch what one eats, drink and thinks. On the physical level, the liver is our primary detoxifier.  It performs over 400 tasks in out body. In order for this remarkable organ to keep working  we can aid it in its tasks by taking care of our food intake and by taking the following herbs and roots:

Burdock (cleanses blood)

Dandelion (cleansing herb)

Ginger (increases circulation and aids digestion)

Yellow Dock (helps with absorption)

These are just some of the herbs that will help the liver. Now, there are other organs that are responsible for cleansing the body such as the skin, kidneys, lymph system and not to forget the intestines. There are specific herbs for each system. Sometimes though it feels almost too much when you see that there are so many things you have to take in order to be healthy. The good thing is that you don't have to reinvent the wheel in this case, although you do need to listen to your body and adjust you cleansing according to what you feel your body can handle. There is a very good cleansing program that I would recommend, here is the site address:

http://www.cleanse.net/newsite/index.html

The creator of this program wrote several books on the topic of cleansing. I have read these books and found that there is a lot of truth to what he is saying about the state of people health. The supplements that he is selling are a bit on the pricy side, but worth it since they are top quality. I am in no way paid to promote this site or its products. After trying this system I decided to share it with you on this site. The next blog posting will concentrate more on cleansing by modifying food intake as well as spiritual practices.

Health Coverage

Health Care

I n the past and for the most part in the present as well, the health care system around the world has not been very receptive towards the arrival of naturopathic medicine. If you were to try and switch from a regular doctor to a naturopathic one it would cost you an arm and a leg...plus a kidney. But recently there have been more and more companies appearing that accept the alternative therapy insurance claims. There is still a lot of work to be done in the health field since natural medicine is perceived to be nothing more than a fad or quackery. As momentum builds in the world populations need for an alternative way of treatment of various ailments, naturopathic medicine will take its rightful place as a legitimate way of treating and preventing diseases.

Folic Acid

me1.jpg Sunday, 04 March 07 - 03:57 PM (GMT -08:00)
By Stanislav Bandrovsky in Body

Folic Acid Sources

Folic acid can be found in various sources. Spinach as well as other leafy greens, whole wheat, beef, liver and a few other sources contain high levels of folic acid that is so important to personal health. Recent studies suggest that 800 micro grams of folic acid a day can significantly improve cognitive skills. This is really good news for people with Alzheimer’s and early stages of dementia. The body’s ability to process folic acid is limited as well as vitamin B6 and B12. Cooking can further reduce the amount of absorbable folate since almost 90% of it vanishes when the source is cooked. So, my suggestion is to eat your greens raw or lightly steamed. Supplementation is also available in pill form. Remember though, moderation and conscious supplementation is important.  A holistic approach to your health is important since you are trying to be overall a healthy individual, and not to treat the symptoms only. Until next time stay healthy.

This is a start of new chapter in my development as a writer and researcher. I am hoping that the information on this site will be useful for everyone. I must stress that I am not a licensed practitioner of medicine, and am not in any way responsible for your health. It is important to use ones own common sense and intuition when approaching the topic of health care.
